Thank You

Eva and I pulled together Warm A Cold Shoulder in a little under one month and it was a HUGE success.  We estimate that we collected around 3,000 items of winter clothing.  About 100 large trash-bags full of clothing went to the Maxine Lewis Memorial Night Shelter and about 150 bags went to the Prado Day Center.  We had at least 250 bags total, and there were (conservatively) 15 items on average in each bag.

Thank you to everyone who donated and everyone who helped us make it a success!

Thank you to the Broad Street Giant Grinder for donating a tray of their amazing sandwiches!  They were SUCH a hit, very yummy.

LEVEL Studios (and their intern Danielle) for their generous donation and support.

The Nipomo Rotary Club and Barry for their support (and the breakfast: eggs and bacon!)

The sweet homeless man who not only donated his hat but also bought one to donate (it was all he could afford.)  I’ll never forget him and that act of kindness.  It epitomizes the enduring, good-natured human spirit.  If only more people in the world were like that.

The mohawk angel named Benjamin.

Bob Sanders for designing and donating the beautiful signs, the cappuccinos and 50% of the Novo feast thereafter.

The media:
The Tribune
Lisa Spencer and Ed Connelly at The New Times for the amazing article and support
KSBY
Leticia Rodriguez at The Mustang Daily

Our moral support:
Bob, Eva, Eva, Truman, Suzanne, Tom, Claire, Amy, Kelsey, Serena.

What a success and an inspiration.  Hopefully this is a drop in the bucket compared to the public service we hope to do throughout our lives.  XOXOXO

love,

Eva and Erika

Look At The Response!

Photo 45Photo 46Isn’t this FANTASTIC!?  With our storage closet completely full, this is the state of our living room until we get these sorted and bring them down to Prado tomorrow.  We are so excited about the response we received for our curb-side pick ups.  It was overwhelming!  Not only did people donate children’s clothes, but brand new clothes, socks, hats, scarves, even a brand new plushy stuffed animal.  To give credit where credit is due, the neighborhood Stoneridge (which looks like a beautiful, eclectic Greek village) donated a huge amount of clothing.  If you live in Stoneridge, THANK YOU!!!!

Is It Warm In Here? Or Is It Just Us…

Look at what we’ve already collected!  Our front closet is filled to the brim:

photoAnd this is BEFORE the drive officially begins. How great is that??! These donations are almost all from 2 of my classes at Cuesta.  I was really impressed at the response from these students (and teachers as well) because sometimes it’s easy to second guess whether or not you got through to people.  You can stand there and say, “support our cause!” but what weight does that carry?  How do you get across your message so that it sticks, so that people remember you and think, “I want to help.”  Whatever doubts I had about getting through to my peers to donate to Warm A Cold Shoulder quickly vanished on Tuesday.  They remembered over the weekend and brought in A TON of winter clothing!  As a result of our clothing drive, a girl in my class got the 3 hotels she works for to donate all of their used bedding to the Prado Day Center. Inspiring others to take action seems like a tough thing to do, but it’s really not.  Eva and I are overwhelmed at the outpouring of donations and generosity we’ve received.

KEEP IT COMIN’!

Today a photographer for the New Times took pictures of us with all of our donations piled up around us.  It took 1o minutes… We’re happy girls, both quick to smile, happy to make the photo shoot quick and easy.  The article will run in next weeks New Times so keep your eyes peeled!

This Sunday is going to be our paper-bag pick-up day.  I hope it doesn’t rain.  Cross your fingers. & keep telling your friends about us–the way this is going, it should be a warm Winter. :) )
